Invisalign helps straighten teeth without the use of conventional metal braces. Because they use clear plastic trays rather than wires and brackets, Invisalign has revolutionized orthodontic treatments. In fact, more than 8 million people have already enjoyed the teeth-straightening benefits of Invisalign.
Invisalign corrects many common orthodontic problems, including
- Gapped teeth
- Mild bite problems, such as overbite, underbite, crossbite, or open bite
- Crowded teeth
About Invisalign
Invisalign uses a series of clear plastic trays that gradually move teeth to their desired position. The trays work similarly to a dental retainer or braces by applying gentle pressure to move teeth into their desired position.
Your dentist uses a computer to create an impression of your mouth. Using Invisalign’s software, your dentist predicts how Invisalign will change the position of your teeth over time with Invisalign and can show you how your teeth will look as you progress through the treatment.
Your dentist then sends the information to a lab, which makes the series of clear aligners that move your teeth. The trays come through the mail at regular intervals. You will wear each tray for about two weeks for a total treatment time of six to eighteen months. Some patients require longer treatment, depending on the severity of their tooth misalignment.
Invisalign presents several advantages over conventional braces. You can take the aligners out when eating, drinking, brushing and flossing, for example, to make oral care easier. Removing the Invisalign tray also allows you to enjoy hard or chewy foods, such as crunchy taco shells and corn on the cob, which are generally off-limits with conventional braces.
Because they are clear, you can use Invisalign aligners without the embarrassment of metal brackets and wires. The smooth plastic aligners are also easier on your cheeks and gums than braces, which have sharp edges that can cut or scrape the inside of your mouth.
